Yaniv, online
Claims is a close cousin of Yaniv: five cards, throw and draw, and a call that can backfire when someone is as low as you. Play it online with friends or with anyone, free in your browser. 2 to 7 players, no download and no sign-up to try it.
What you already know
- Five cards each, and the lowest hand wins the round.
- Each turn you throw one card or a set of the same rank, then draw from the deck or take the card the last player threw.
- Call the round when your hand is low. If anyone is at or below you, that is your Assaf, and it costs you.
- Points add up over rounds; you want to stay low.
What is different in Claims
| Yaniv | Claims | |
|---|---|---|
| What you can throw | A card, a set, or a run in one suit | A card, or a set of the same rank |
| Jokers | Printed jokers, worth 0 | A card turned up each round makes its rank worth 0 |
| Jack, Queen, King | 10 each | 12, 13, 14 |
| When you can call | 7 or under (5 at some tables) | 10 or less, from your second turn |
| Assaf | Your hand plus 30 | 50 for each player at or below you |
| End of the game | Out over 200 | Ends when someone passes 300, lowest total wins |
Yaniv is played in Israel and by travellers everywhere, and as Jhyap in Nepal, and house rules vary from table to table. In Claims you call it a claim, and hitting the target exactly sends you back to 0.
